Reasons? Netanyahu needs a war, to stay out of jail. Trump got played by Netanyahu - but also needs a war to distract from Epstein and the shit job he's doing.
Starmer, (has for once), got it right. Getting into bed with two warmongering psychopaths would not be smart.
Badenoch and Farage are, of course, simply trying to make political capital. Which is disgusting - but exactly what to expect from these two hypocrites. And we all know, if Starmer had decided to join Israel and the US, they would be throwing shit at that too.
Mainstream media... I just give up!
P.S. Being in Oz, you may not have watched Channel Four's "Dirty Business". It tells a lot about how the water companies have got away with it since privatisation. They are as disgusting as the filth they pump into our waterways. Shocking!
We badly need more such programmes / films about Britain’s ‘scandals’, because they appear to wake-up the nation into doing something about them. This started with the post office scandal, now continued with the pestilential state of river and drinking water. But there is the way Covid was used to breed millionaires while leaving the nation with useless kit in warehouses: etc. etc. And what about the crass stupidity called Brexit? The way London gets new state of the art rail connections where the rest of England ought to be glad they get the cast-offs. Or the contaminated transfusion blood scandal? Good article though, for which my sincere thanks.
P.P.S. I'd love to know what you think of my latest Substack Note. And no, it's not a shameless attempt at self-promotion. I really would like to know.
Thank god you’ve said all this. I thought I was losing my mind. Especially the anti-proliferation treaty Obama developed and the Trump 1 ended. Literally no mention of this anywhere.
Perfectly explained Ian, particularly the comparison with the way the right wing buffoons complained about being controlled by the EU but are perfectly happy to prostrate themselves before Trump.
I’ve also just read that Trump has asked Ukraine to help them shoot down Iranian drones - the overwhelming hypocrisy of such a request is astonishing but Ukraine have agreed to help. I hope Trump says “Thank You”.
I think the final push after the posturing was the Israelis knowing where Khameini and top team were. A type of buy now because it's 70% off today only. A bargain of a quick win offered by Netanyahu to Trump.
I've seen a theory (no idea if it's true) that this was deliberate on the Iranian side to not alter security routes. With Khameini near a natural death going out a martyr during Ramadan creates a religious legacy, which is a lot more potent for future extremism and his son's succession.
Do Badenoch and Farage (and the Daily Express) reckon they speak for the majority of people in the UK? How many of us do they think want the UK to join these disgusting attacks?
Just incredible that those who spent decades screaming about taking back control now demand we cede all control to a demented foreign tyrant. How "patriotic"
Claims that Starmer is weak for not immediately, slavishly, following Trump's demands are enraging. Not least because it clearly takes more guts to say no to him.
And you know that if Starmer had immediately allowed our bases to be used for offensive strikes, the second one British soldier died he'd be pilloried by the very same people who are calling him weak now
Among parts of the British establishment, belief in the "special relationship" is like a foreign policy version of erotomania. (Contrast with the much more mercenary approach that Israeli leaders take towards their "special relationship" with the USA.)
Erotomania! What a useful definition. It brings up memories of comments I read in foreign news media about how the sexual orientation of upper class British boys was knackered by their schools.
Thank you for saying this - both about people accepting this as normal-ish although it is so screamingly obviously insane, and about how Iranians are different, & wonderful. A relief just to read a bit of sanity.
Welcome to Australia , Ian , and thank you so much for this perfect coverage of America’s and Israel’s insane war mongering . It was a delight listening to you . Of course you made no mention of the Australian government during this
piece , but the dedication of the PM , FM and DPM to supporting America no matter what is a huge worry . ( Another vassal state 🤢) . Your deep admiration for the history and culture of Iran stands out . Well done . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think there are two versions of reality going on here. The first reality is the absolutely abysmal level of Trump and his cohort's understanding of, well, anything, really. This is what leaves us aghast at the torrent of lies deceit and bullshit the emanates from what Jeff Tiedrich calls his "anus mouth." Sorry, I just looked that up, and it's "rancid anus mouth."
The second version of reality is EU politicians, with the honorable exception of the Spanish leader, sane-washing Trump, presumably on the basis that if the Americans won't admit that their dear leader is well past the level needed to be dismissed for insanity, that it's probably tacklust for us to do so. This is obviously cowardly, but not by their briefs (i.e., to try and look after their country's interests) incomprehensible.
I think the main problem is with those members of the media who are aware of the first problem (the fact that the American government and some members of the American military are batshit crazy) and who still want to push the leaders of their countries further into the madness, because it gives advantage to their political position. I honestly think some of these people should be tried for treason. Just my opinion...
Netanyahu explicitly said that he's been wanting to destroy Iran's regime for 40 years (a clearly unhealthy obsession), and that Trump is the first president to support him. In other words, every other president had the sense to keep at arm's length, but sense to Trump is a foreign concept. This is Netanyahu's war, no-one else's, he's just managed to talk the DC psychopaths into demonstrating their manliness by making a lot of big bangs with their toys. Jared Kushner has been a key link too, given the Kushners and Netanyahus are old family friends.
I also suggest exploring the relationship between the Iran-USA negotiations, which paused on 27th Feb on a positive note, and the total obliteration of the government buildings in Tehran the following day, killing all the regime's senior members who had gathered to discuss the negotiations (the info's all out there). Could this have been a long-planned, totally cynical operation to trap the regime in one place where they could, in effect, be subjected to mass execution? Surely not, Israel would never do something so underhand, would they?
"Could this have been a long-planned, totally cynical operation to trap the regime in one place where they could, in effect, be subjected to mass execution? Surely not, Israel would never do something so underhand, would they?" Answer to question No 1: Yes. Without a single doubt. Answer to question No 2: Yes. And this isn't the lowest to which Israel would fall in order to stamp their psychosis on the world-at-large.
Nailed it Ian.

Thank god you’ve said all this. I thought I was losing my mind. Especially the anti-proliferation treaty Obama developed and the Trump 1 ended. Literally no mention of this anywhere.
I bring it up fairly often but you're right..it gets studiously ignored.
Wonder what the Ukrainian government asked as payment.
Indeed - a very good point. Will we ever know?
If Ukraine suddenly have lots of missiles, we'll know!
Zelenskyy said that US used more Patriot missiles in three days than Ukraine has had over four years!
I think the final push after the posturing was the Israelis knowing where Khameini and top team were. A type of buy now because it's 70% off today only. A bargain of a quick win offered by Netanyahu to Trump.

Such clarity to this crazy situation, thank you.
Do Badenoch and Farage (and the Daily Express) reckon they speak for the majority of people in the UK? How many of us do they think want the UK to join these disgusting attacks?
Who is still interested in facts these days?
Just incredible that those who spent decades screaming about taking back control now demand we cede all control to a demented foreign tyrant. How "patriotic"

Hypocrisy on an off-the-planet scale! Makes me want to 😱 into the void.

Thanks Ian. So many signs to tap here such as:
- the I'd give the Devil benefit of law" speech from A Man For All Seasons (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDBiLT3LASk)
- A big Neon sign that says "Vietnam"
- An even bigger one that says "Iraq"
- Plus of course, pretty much everything that Trump has ever said or done.
Hope you get home safe.
Hey Ian, really enjoyed the Late Night Live interview.

"Tacklust", interesting as it would be should be "tackless".
Dictation does it again! "Tackless" = "Tactless".
Not “tactless”?
You are entirely correct. However I am sitting here with the worst cold I have had in my life, using dictation. It's not going well...
Simply brilliant!
