I bought it despite thinking "I read loads of Ian's stuff, is there really going to be much that I haven't seen before?" but really enjoyed it, just the right amounts of illuminating and enraging. The Afghanistan chapter in particular was infuriating.

Curious to know what your thoughts are on Ukrainian accession to the EU had there been no war. It seemed like it was nowhere near, no closer than, say, Turkey, due to levels of corruption, rule of law, that kind of thing. I don't understand how those things could have improved while under war conditions, is this talk of making Ukraine a candidate real, or is it just shaking a stick at Putin? If the war ended tomorrow would they go straight to the back of the queue?
